So, You Want to Talk About Yourself

Table of Contents

Our profiles begin with a self-interview: the subject asks and answers their own questions. Afterwards, one of our editors joins in an open editorial dialogue that reflects on what’s been said (and perhaps what wasn't).

We’re not here to assume, sensationalize, or spin. We’re here to create space for clarity, and art out of sincerity.

How to Pitch Yourself

We usually reach out first, but we’re open to being surprised.

If you’d like to pitch yourself, send us a short note that helps us understand who you are, what you’re working on right now, and why you’d like to explore it with us.

You don’t need to send a draft — just enough context for us to see if there's a good fit.

Include:

  • A short bio (3-5 sentences)
  • Any links or recent work that give us a sense of your voice
  • Why you think that Thoroughbreds feels right for you

Please send pitches to editorial@thoroughbredsmag.com with the subject line: Pitch: [Your Name] / Self-Interview

For Publicists and Managers

If you want to reach out on behalf of a client, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re not a traditional press outlet, so while we’re open to promoting new work, your client doesn't need to be actively promoting anything for us to consider them. We care more about why now is the right moment for them.

Please include:

  • Client name, current project (if any), and any relevant links
  • Why they’d be a strong fit for our publication
  • Any timing or embargo details

Send everything to editorial@thoroughbredsmag.com
Subject line: Pitch: [Client's Name] / Interview / Relevant Deadline

Every pitch, submission, question, comment, query - for better or worse - we respond to ourselves. That means it might take some time to get back to you. Usually, we’ll respond within two weeks if it feels like the right fit.

If we move forward, we’ll send a short framework to guide your conversation with yourself. Not a script, but a way to help you think out loud.
